Sandman is one of the most intimidating villains in the Spider-Man universe, but even he has enemies of his own. The beginning of the game’s third act is arguably the most fun part of the game, as players take control of Venom/ Harry Osborn as he fights out of the Oscorp laboratory. This section leads to one of the most brutal moments of the game, as Venom kills Kraven the Hunter by eating his head. Following this encounter, Peter is tasked to find where Harry ran off before Venom takes over the city with his Symbiote. Not much is known about Spider-Man 2’s story, but we did get a lot more insight with the story trailer.

The mid-credits scene reveals that Harry is to be released from his stasis pod, even though his health is still unstable. Peter puts Miles to the test, going off to Symkaria for a couple of weeks to help MJ with her work as a reporter there and leaving Miles in charge of protecting the city, leaving him as the sole Spider-Man in NYC for the first time. With the help of his new suit, Spider-Man defeats Doc Ock and takes the cure, but there is only enough left to save either Aunt May from dying or to replicate the formula to save everyone else. Peter chooses to save everyone else, which leads to a tearful goodbye from his loved one. Otto Octavius later turns into Doc Ock and frees Mr. Negative, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion to form the Sinister Six. Doc Ock takes the Devil’s breath and releases it in Times Square, also infecting Aunt May.

Spider-Man defeats each of the villains and fights Doctor Octopus for the antidote to Devil’s Breath, claiming victory after a bitter battle where Octavius revealed he knew Peter was Spider-Man all along. With the limited amount of antidote, Peter uses it to mass-produce into a cure for the entire city, a choice even more heartbreaking as it means May wouldn’t be saved in time from her Devil’s Breath infection. In the aftermath, Peter rekindles his relationship with Mary Jane Watson and agrees to train Miles to become a Super Hero after Miles gains similar superpowers from a bite from a genetically engineered spider. Many of the best suits for Miles in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are based on other superheroes or versions of the character from alternate universes.

With it you can build on the combat and traversal skills that you would want in either Spider-Man, creating a more rounded – and appropriately – symbiotic duo. And if the henchmen have been blessed with an upgrade, then you can expect something even more intimidating from the bosses. Between Kraven’s wily viciousness and the sheer overwhelming might of Lizard and Venom, there’s a level of brutality and strength from Spider-Man’s nemeses that you didn’t see in the previous games.

Check all enemies in an area to take them out one by one in stealth. You can still do it after the story in the open world, enemies keep spawning infinitely in Crimes (you can go invisible as Miles and focus on stealth Crimes which are random). 4 of them are automatically unlocked from story progress (unmissable) and 2 are bought from Peter’s skill tree.

But you can play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, switching between the heroic Spider-Men on your crime-fighting adventures to experience their individual gameplay abilities and story elements. While Amazing difficulty is a great baseline to start at, many players will want to tweak one setting or another to better tailor their own experience according to their preferences. After all, difficulty mode can be changed at any time during Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so time spent experimenting with different options is never wasted. Amazing difficulty is the default setting for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and sits right in the middle of the scale. Enemies do a bit more damage than the previous two, and there are sometimes more enemies in larger encounters. They also have more HP, which means they take more hits to go down, and their awareness of characters in stealth is higher.

Accompanying a new trailer, below, Spider-Man 2 on PC drops the hard PSN requirement for PC players and adds advanced raytracing features such as DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction. While Mary Jane informs Peter of the location of the cure, Spider-Man is forced to build a new armored suit in order to defeat Doc Ock, who has beaten Spider-Man and taken Osborn and the cure. So make sure your reaction time is sharp before you don the super suit. Spider-Man is one of Sony’s preeminent exclusive titles, so it gets the extra special optimization treatment. The game has a graphics-oriented Fidelity mode and a 60 frames-per-second Performance mode. You get to fully experience how fast Peter and Miles whip through the New York City skyline. For the first time in the series, you can now switch between both Spider-Men, using their individual skills to explore different parts of the story.

After apprehending the Kingpin, a new super-powered crime syndicate known as the Inner Demons become the largest criminal organization in the city, led by the mysterious Mister Negative. You can’t change the time of day in the main story because there are certain story moments tied to the time of day. It’s a sad moment as Peter kneels beside his best friend and confesses his love as Harry passes out. Either way, it’s a beautiful moment between the two characters and fans will probably shed a few tears. This is the last action-oriented mission of the game which involves Peter and Miles teaming up to take down Venom.

They’re so blandly nice it tips over into being unsettling—you keep getting that feeling like everyone’s waiting for you to leave so they can badmouth you behind your back. These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. Despite its imperfections and overall lack of side content as well as a rushed third act the gameplay is near perfect in every way possible. The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing. Pre-orders are also available for both the Standard Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition.
